about

Originally from Detroit Michigan, Jean-Paul Bondy aka VOLUM (of legendary electro duo Volsoc) began his music career at the early age of nine when he started playing the acoustic drums but soon went on to experiment with synthesizers and drum computers as a teenager. He enjoyed playing in New Wave, Industrial and Techno bands and worked as a VJ for one of Detroit’s many techno clubs. In 1993 he left Motorcity and moved to sunny LA where he met Justin Maxwell. Together they formed the innovative and much praised electro project Volsoc.

Jean-Paul’s continuing obsession with analog drum machines, computers, science fiction movies and video games has triggered his synapses and evolved him into the artist we know and appreciate today. His unique mix of techno, electro and hiphop is played by likes of Si Begg, Tripper. DJ Tiga, Andrew Weatherall, Bass Junkie, Dexorcist, ADJ and many others.

On this 12” he teams up with Blood Of Abraham, a LA based Jewish hiphop duo which made their debut on Eazy E’s Ruthless Records somewhat in the early 90s. On “Something Is not Right” they quote “Black Is Black” from the Jungle Brothers – a band they highly respect because just like BDP or Public Enemy they could make you shake your ass and think about some serious issue at the same time!

Talking about shaking of body parts: no matter if you prefer minimal bleeps and clonks or massive electro sounds – ye shall all be served! Bondy gets a complete remix treatment by Si Begg and Robag Wruhme. Any more words needed? Oh yeah: FUKKELDIBOBB BABEEE!
